Tamil Nadu maintains 69% reservation under the Tamil Nadu Act 45 of 1994, protected by inclusion in the Ninth Schedule, well above the Indra Sawhney 50% ceiling. The state also has a distinct 10.5% Vanniyar sub-quota that was struck down by the Supreme Court in 2022, and it has legislated against NEET while the matter remains contested.
